Our JUNO-Nominated Guest

Originally based in Edmonton, soul and R&B singer Tanika Charles has called Toronto home for several years. After performing backup vocals for the likes of Bedouin Soundclash and Isis Salaam, she moved on as a solo artist, releasing an EP followed by a full-length album. The move paid off: Soul Run received a JUNO nod for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year in 2017

Bridging the Gap in Guelph

Multiculturalism is embedded deep in the Canadian DNA, permeating our culture, music and food. In celebration of this beautiful coast-to-coast mosaic, Metro is throwing an event symbolizing the connections made daily between fellow Canadians who have roots from around the globe but call this country home.

The perfect location for this inclusive fete is a glorious Guelph landmark. The Lattice Covered Bridge was built by a team of volunteers 25 years ago and is one of the city’s most iconic sights. On July 27th, it will also represent the symbolic bridging of cultures that defines the collective Canadian identity thanks to Metro’s Homegrown Tour.

Fresh Guelph Flavour

Metro prides itself on supporting local growers while delivering the highest-quality produce directly to consumers. In fact, many of the products you’ll find on the shelves at your local Metro grocery store travelled a very short distance to land there.

In Guelph, that means field-grown tomatoes and peppers from Elgin’s DeBackere Farms. And those beautiful blooms found in our garden centre? Many come from Wilsonville’s Woodley Farms.

It doesn’t get much fresher than that!

The Sound of Guelph

With a plethora of unique venues, festivals and artists, Guelph’s music scene is thriving. To select top local artists to perform for guests as they arrived at the event, Metro worked with Coalition’s Incubator Project.

Furthermore, Metro invited another special guest to perform at the Homegrown event: Guelph’s very own Nefe, who has been described as a combination of Tracy Chapman and Bruno Mars. Her set list featured some of the greatest Canadian hits ever and—surprise!—JUNO-nominated soul and R&B singer Tanika Charles joined her on stage for a truly unforgettable event.

Celebrity Chef Mike Ward

Metro is thrilled to present Mike Ward as culinary curator of the Homegrown Tour. Not only has he been cooking professionally since he was 17 years old but he is also an award-winning television director, producer, and media personality.

You may recognize him from prestigious culinary events including the Visa Dining series and Taste of Toronto and now, he’s lending his talent to create Canadian-inspired menus for every stop on the Homegrown Tour. Don’t miss your chance to taste his one of a kind creations!

We’re rolling into Guelph for the next stop of the Metro Homegrown Food & Music Tour – and this time we’re celebrating the cultural mosaic that defines us as Canadians. We’ve got a great night planned for you with delicious food and fantastic music – and can’t wait to host it for you.

Brighten Up

Brighten Up

To create a warm, vibrant ambiance that evokes far-flung destinations, choose exotic textures like ikat and paisley in sunset-inspired shades of fuchsia, orange and red. For maximum impact, adopt a “more is more” mantra, adorning your space with not only essentials like table linens, but floor pillows, rugs and more.

Boho Vibes

Boho Vibes

Bring a Moroccan souk to your backyard with a collection of lanterns. Hung at staggered heights from a tree, lining a pathway or grouped into a centrepiece, these enchanting lamps work double-duty, providing beautiful mood lighting and a dash of boho beauty.

For a luxe-meets-Old-World-vibe—not to mention a little sparkle!—add mismatched gold and silver accents to your table setting with glinty glassware, flatware or candelabras.
