Magnificent Poinsettias

Give your home a festive look with this popular Christmas decoration. We carry a range of colourful poinsettias to choose from: white, pale pink, dark red, bright red and jingle bell (white or pink flecked red flowers)!

Poinsettias are a colourful flowering plant that last throughout the holiday season. They make gorgeous gifts and festive decorations for the mantle, entranceway and dining table.

Here are some tips to remember when caring for your plant.

  • Keep poinsettias in a fairly well lit place, away from direct sunlight and cold or warm drafts.
  • Poinsettias should be watered in moderation. Ideally, they should be thoroughly watered with warm water and left to drain for an hour. Remove any excess water. Then water again when the soil is dry to the touch.
  • Give poinsettias a bit of fertilizer, such as 15-30-15 every three weeks. Then stand back and admire them!

Fun Facts

Did you know that poinsettias originated in Mexico? Franciscan priests used them in the Fiesta of Santa Pesebre, a nativity procession as early as the 17th century. The plant was called poinsettia in honour of Joel Robert Poinsett, the first U.S. ambassador to Mexico. A fervent botanist, he sent cuttings and plants back to his home in South Carolina.
