How To Manage Gas and Bloating
Gas and bloating can be caused by the foods that you eat, the way that you eat or may even be caused by some of the medications that you are taking. Minor adjustments in your lifestyle and diet choices can help with these symptoms.
Helpful Tips To Reduce Gas and Bloating
Try any of the the following suggestions which may improve how you’re feeling:
- Figure out which foods cause your gas and eat those foods less often and in smaller amounts
- Common gas-producing foods include: dried beans and peas, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and onions
- Avoid foods containing high fructose corn syrup and certain artificial sweeteners such as sugar alcohols (e.g. sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol)
- Avoid carbonated drinks like pop and beer
- Eat ginger, i.e. pickled ginger, ginger tea or place a slice of ginger in soup
- Increase fibre intake slowly
- Swallow less air:
- Eat food slowly and try to relax while you eat
- Drink from a glass instead of using a straw or drinking from a bottle or can
- Avoid chewing gum and sucking on hard candy
- Drink fluids lukewarm instead of hot
