Tips

A Great Start to Your Day

What better way to start your day than eating something good for both your body and your taste buds? Juicy Ontario cantaloupe is the ideal breakfast food:

  • While it is very low in calories, it’s also extremely filling. Eating a hearty portion of cantaloupe in the morning should make it easier for you to last until lunchtime without the need to snack
  • Although it fills you up, it’s also easy to digest — melons digest in about 15-30 minutes — the fastest time for any food to be processed
  • It’s also a nutritional powerhouse, containing Omega 3, protein, vitamins A, C, K, B1, B3 and B6 and minerals such as copper, magnesium, potassium, folate and zinc

Just Add Water

You can replicate a bit of a spa experience by making cucumber water at home. It’s refreshing and makes it more enjoyable to keep hydrated. Follow these simple steps:

  • Thoroughly wash a cucumber and cut it into very thin slices. Remember to leave the peel on.
  • Add the slices to a pitcher of cold water. If desired, you can also add raspberries or sliced lemons or strawberries (or even sprigs of mint, rosemary and thyme)
  • Cover and lightly shake. Place in fridge to chill, or enjoy straightaway with some ice.

Be good to your heart

Zucchini is a great source of potassium, which helps reduce blood pressure and heart rate by fighting the pressure-effects of sodium. It is also very low in calories and its peel provides important dietary fibre. All that and it tastes great too!

So good for you

Both broccoli and cauliflower are loaded with Vitamin C and folacin, and also offer a healthy dose of potassium. Additionally, broccoli is a great source of fibre and Vitamin A! Broccoli and cauliflower are also very low in calories, making them ideal choices for diet conscious diners!

Choose Local and Organic

Be kind to the planet and your family!

Organic farming practices crop rotation and other natural techniques to improve soil fertility rather than using synthetic fertilizers. Livestock raised organically are fed food free of pesticides and chemicals. As for the local factor, foods that are grown close to home usually make less of an impact on the environment. Cutting down on how far food has to travel reduces its carbon footprint. And when you buy foods grown locally, you also contribute to maintaining green space in your area.

Here at Metro, we’re proud of the organic chicken, pork and lamb we source from Ontario suppliers. We know you’ll also love our Irresistibles Bio Organic products—quality items produced through ecologically sound agriculture.
